The Mountain Home Historical Society was one of 25 organizations around the state to receive a Community Assistance Grant from the State Historical Society in 2008. The Mountain Home Historical Society used its funds to create a traveling trunk about the Oregon Trail geared to 4th graders. The 4th grade teachers at East Elementary School in Mountain Home wrote to the Historical Society: "Seeing the artifacts that you brought from the museum helped make life on the Oregon Trail seem more realistic. The beaver pelt s were especially popular and the jerky and dried fruit were an especially nice touch for the children to sample 'Oregon Trail fare.' "

Application guidelines
